Guiding Learner Progress with Content Locking in Create

Enforcing structured learning paths is essential for delivering successful, high-compliance training. In Elucidat Create, you can easily prevent learners from skipping mandatory content, ensuring they process vital concepts and fully interact with required page elements before advancing.

This guide details how to enable Content Locking, set up Completion Indicators to assist learners, and utilise the upgraded Preview Modes to test your project layout.

1. Enabling Content Locking for Your Project

By default, learners can navigate freely through your project pages. To restrict forward navigation and require page completion before a learner can advance:

  1. Open your project in the Create editor.
  2. Click on Project in the top-left menu and select Navigation.
  3. In the Navigation settings modal, find the Progress section.
  4. Toggle on Lock navigation.
  5. Click Apply changes.

What happens next?

  • Forward Navigation Restricted: The standard "Next" button and subsequent forward pages in the project menu will be disabled (greyed out) until the learner completes all interactive elements on the current page.
  • Backward Navigation Allowed: Learners can still navigate backward at any time using the menu or navigation buttons to review previously completed content.

2. Supporting Learners with Completion Indicators

To help learners understand what they have and haven't completed, you can display clear visual status indicators directly on interactive content blocks.

How to Enable Completion Indicators:

  1. Navigate to your Brand Style
  2. Open the Progress section
  3. Toggle on Display completion indicator on interactive blocks.
  4. Customise the alignment (e.g., Left Bottom) and the appearance of the Incomplete/Complete indicator (including text and icon colour) to match your branding.

Completion Logic for Custom Content Blocks:

When using Custom Content Blocks (which contain multiple elements grouped together), a specific rule applies to ensure true engagement:

  • The completion indicator for a Custom Content Block will only update to "complete" once every single interactive element within that block has been successfully finished.
  • This prevents learners from unlocking the page by only completing part of a combined activity.

3. Testing Your project in Preview Mode

To make editing and testing your projects as seamless as possible, the project preview includes two distinct viewing modes:

  • Author - No locking (Default): When you preview your project, this mode is active by default. It temporarily disables content locking so that you can quickly skip through pages, review layout changes, and test your project flow without being forced to complete every interactive block every time.
  • Learner - Progression locked: Switch to this mode to experience the project exactly as your learners will. All navigation restrictions, locked menus, and completion requirements are fully active, allowing you to test the exact compliance path and verify that unlocking triggers function as designed.

To switch modes, simply click the preview dropdown toolbar at the top of the editor and select your preferred preview setting.
