Overview The Custom Content Block gives you complete control over the structure and layout of your course pages. Unlike standard content blocks that pre-package a title, text, interaction, and footer together, this block allows you to add individual, standalone elements—such as just text, just an image, or just an accordion. This allows you to design diverse and bespoke experiences for your learners.
Note: If using the Custom Content Block in a project, Copy to Author functionality is unavailable.
Building Your Layout When you add a Custom Content Block, you can arrange items freely on the canvas.
- Add a Custom Content Block: Click the Add Block blue dot indicator and choose the Custom Content Block
- Adding Elements: Click the blue dot indicators located above, below, or beside existing elements to insert new standalone items exactly where you want them.
- Rearranging Elements: Use the vertical toolbar on the right side of the block to manage your content. You can use the up and down arrows or the hand icon (which prompts a "Move up" or move down action) to reorder your elements.
Creating Two-Column Layouts A major feature of the Custom Content Block is the ability to break away from single-width constraints and create two-column layouts.
- Click the Grid icon in the right-hand vertical toolbar to open the Layout menu.
- Under the Columns section, click the dropdown menu and switch from 1 Column to 2 Columns.
- Set your desired column split, whether that is an equal 50/50 split or a 70/30 configuration.
- Use the breakpoint dropdown to choose the screen size (e.g., Medium Devices) at which the columns should collapse back into a single column, ensuring your content remains mobile-friendly.
Important Notes
- Despite its flexible structure, the Custom Content Block works exactly the same as regular content blocks when it comes to standard features. It fully supports completion tracking, assessments, and automated translations.
- Text added to these blocks retains all the flexibility of your applied brand heading styles.
- The regular content blocks are still available for speedy, efficient authoring when you do not need bespoke layouts.
