Understanding xAPI data reporting

xAPI (sometimes called TinCan) stands for Experience API

In elearning, xAPI is a standard (much like SCORM) that is used to track user data. However, where traditional SCORM reporting is limited to two results—whether the learner has completed the course, and whether they have passed—xAPI is designed to capture additional data points relating to the user‘s experience.

xAPI data is typically reported to and viewed in a Learning Record Store (LRS). Using an LRS is useful if you want to examine the data holistically with other sources of learning or use your existing data analysis tools. Some LMSs have their own LRSs built in; some LRSs are stand-alone applications that run independently.

Using xAPI reporting in Elucidat Create

To report xAPI data from your courses, you need to create an endpoint using information from your LRS.

Because endpoints are set up at a global level, you only need to configure them once. You may create and use multiple endpoints if you need to send data to different LRSs.

Once one or more endpoints have been created, you can choose which ones each course uses as you release them. For convenience, you can assign a default endpoint that it is pre-selected for all of your courses.

Here are some resources to get you started.
