Understanding releases and how they work

Once your course is finished and ready to launch, you will need to create a release. Releasing a course is usually the final step in the elearning creation process and brings your content from the Elucidat platform to your learners.

When you create a release, the current state of your course will be compiled and converted into one of two formats:

  • SCORM
Industry-standard format. The course is exported as a zip file that you can upload into a Learning Management System (LMS). See Understanding our online SCORM package for more information.
  • Online Link
The course is made available via a web link that users can launch directly in their browser.

In both of these formats, your course’s content is hosted on Elucidat’s servers (as opposed to a more conventional SCORM package where the content is contained within the file itself). This means that they require the learner to be connected to the internet to be able to be launched and interacted with.

Once your course has been released, you can continue editing your Project without affecting the live course that your learners are taking.

If you do need to update your course with the latest changes after it has been released, you can re-release it. This will overwrite the live course with the current version you’re working on; there’s no need to upload the new version to your LMS or re-distribute a new Online Link URL.
